Thanksgiving

I am thankful for many things and people around me. For my family and friends, for my stories, for my capacity of providing for my material needs, for my health. But, above all, I am thankful for the opportunity to live and, hopefully, make a small difference. I am thankful for being one of the inhabitants of this beautiful planet Earth.

In the woods, the deer walk gently and elegantly. The bunnies run around, always busy. In the sky, a silent eagle flies, spreading its beautiful wings. In the fields, a gently breeze shake the cornfields, making them turn to one side and to the other, as if dancing.

Not very far from my house, there is a river, which always sings, and whose water seems to be happy to be traveling from one place to another. I can sit close to it and meditate. For a moment, I can take a deep breath, look at all the beauty around me, and think: this is all I need to be happy. All the rest are superfluous desires created by the society to divert us from what is really important in life.

I am very thankful for finding my truth. And you, what are you thankful for?

Native American Prayer Meditation, by R. Carlos Nakai

FRIENDLY NOTE

My Brother

Nobody expects that you become a millionaire or a saint before the good enlightens your heart and guide your steps.

Sublime is a charity that turns into comfort.

Divine a charity that converts into radiant love.

From tiny seeds come the giant trees that sustain life.

Avoid talking about yourself.

Fulfill your duty without interfering with the tasks of others.

Do not look for praise while going about your obligations.

Do not get stuck to small things, when the overall good requires your collaboration.

Forgive offenses quietly...

(From the book "Our Book", by the Spirit Emmanuel, Francisco Cândido Xavier, posted first on the blog Alvorada Espiritual)

BILHETE AMIGO

NATIVE AMERICAN WISDOM

“When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”

Chief Aupumut, Mohican. 1725

Chief Aupumut, Moicano. 1725
