Our Tools

When a year ends and another begins, we might feel nostalgic thinking about the past and uneasy about what the future reserves us. The future represents the new and requires faith since we don’t know its outcome.
But we need to remember that we came to this life equipped with tools to deal with it. The Creator would not send us here unprepared. And the more we use the tools that He gave us, the more they work for us. The stories of a writer become more polished and creative as he practices his writing day after day. The shoe maker designs a shoe that is able to fit perfectly on someone’s feet only after doing countless others that weren’t so comfortable. The more pastries a baker bakes, the more delicious they taste.
We have to work on our tools, sharpening them like the Indians would sharp their arrows before a battle. The more we believe in ourselves and in the tools that we were giving, the more prepared we become to face any situation. The future might be a question mark, but we will make a success out of it if we have faith that the Creator didn’t leave us in this world alone, and that He provided us with the perfect tools to accomplish our mission.

 Nossas Ferramentas

The Right Box

In front of me there is a beautiful field full of yellow flowers. It stretches forever, like in a painting. The sun shines over it and I can see butterflies and hummingbirds flying here and there. Looking at it, I feel peaceful and rested. I feel happy.

On the side of this field there is another, dark and bare. A long time ago, there was a war there. I can see the earth dry and lifeless, pieces of old wood and metal here and there. Nothing grows in that field and the sun never shines there.

I am the only one who can see these fields because I am their creator. If a friend tells me a lie and I persist on thinking about that lie, I automatically go to the field of death and darkness. There, the ghosts of sadness wait for me with their open arms. If, by other hand, I decide that I am not going to think anymore about what my friend did, I enter the field with the yellow flowers with the sun shining and happiness welcomes me.

We need to create images in our minds to guide us through life. Images are very powerful tools that help us in moments of difficulty. If we imagine ourselves in a beautiful place when we feel betrayed, the energy of the place that we create in our minds will envelop us and assist us to cope with our problems. Likewise, the energy of dark places drains us and put us down.

We have to choose not only daily, but a million times a day, to where we are going to direct our thoughts, in which field we want to be, if we want to open the box of sorrows or the box of laughter. Creating images train our minds to turn to the right place and make our choices easier. It is one more tool to guide us on our journey, like music and meditation.

 A Caixa Certa

Olhando para aquele campo, eu me sinto tranquila e descansada. Eu me sinto feliz.

Meditation

I am here, I am here now. I am not in the past, reviewing what already happened, or in the future, planning or worrying. I am here. I listen to my body, my inner voices, to the sounds that come from outside. I don’t get attached to these sounds. I don’t need to think and digest any information. I am here and that is all there is. I just am.

Meditação

Estou aqui, estou aqui agora. Não me apego a esses sons. Eu apenas sou.

FRIENDLY NOTE

My Brother

Nobody expects that you become a millionaire or a saint before the good enlightens your heart and guide your steps.

Sublime is a charity that turns into comfort.

Divine a charity that converts into radiant love.

From tiny seeds come the giant trees that sustain life.

Avoid talking about yourself.

Fulfill your duty without interfering with the tasks of others.

Do not look for praise while going about your obligations.

Do not get stuck to small things, when the overall good requires your collaboration.

Forgive offenses quietly...

(From the book "Our Book", by the Spirit Emmanuel, Francisco Cândido Xavier, posted first on the blog Alvorada Espiritual)

BILHETE AMIGO

NATIVE AMERICAN WISDOM

“When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”

Chief Aupumut, Mohican. 1725

Chief Aupumut, Moicano. 1725
