Help For Our Loved Ones

Nothing hurts more than watch someone we love suffering. We wish we could be the one suffering instead of him. We wish we could do anything to make him better. Depending of the situation, we blame ourselves for his problems. We suffer with the person and, as a result, feel bad as well.

But imagine that there is someone falling in an abyss. Would it help if we were to throw ourselves in the abyss with that person? Would it be much better if we stayed exactly where we were and threw a rope to the person?

Suffering with someone might feel like the right thing to do but, ultimately, is totally useless. What is the point of us feeling horrible because of a problem that is not even ours? It is not a matter of being selfish and not caring about the others. It is a matter of setting limits, taking responsibility for what is ours and letting the others take responsibility for what is theirs.

We should listen to other people’s predicaments but, after listening, we should give them back to the person to whom they belong. After doing this, we can pray for the Guardian Angel of the person who is suffering, asking the Angel to point him in the direction. We pray for the person to find His Truth, His Way, His Light.  Then, we go about our business, confident that the Universe will provide help and that we don’t need to be suffering for something that was not ours to start with.

Native American Prayer Meditation, by R. Carlos Nakai

FRIENDLY NOTE

My Brother

Nobody expects that you become a millionaire or a saint before the good enlightens your heart and guide your steps.

Sublime is a charity that turns into comfort.

Divine a charity that converts into radiant love.

From tiny seeds come the giant trees that sustain life.

Avoid talking about yourself.

Fulfill your duty without interfering with the tasks of others.

Do not look for praise while going about your obligations.

Do not get stuck to small things, when the overall good requires your collaboration.

Forgive offenses quietly...

(From the book "Our Book", by the Spirit Emmanuel, Francisco Cândido Xavier, posted first on the blog Alvorada Espiritual)

BILHETE AMIGO

NATIVE AMERICAN WISDOM

“When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”

Chief Aupumut, Mohican. 1725

Chief Aupumut, Moicano. 1725
