Shoes and People

Sometimes we buy a pair of shoes and then discover, frustrated, that they don’t fit as well as they did in the store. Since we got the shoes because they looked so nice, of course we get disappointed. Some shoes we end up discarding or giving to someone else after trying everything to make them fit and realizing that it is impossible. Others, we try wearing for a few days, in the hope that they will stretch, and - oh the relief! – they end up being perfect on our feet. 

Love relationships are like shoes. Some of them start perfect and remain like that. Some start with a few problems, but we like the person, we like their appearance and their inner qualities, so we work in the relationship and, after compromising here and there,  eventually we come to a happy relationship. But some are meant to fail and, even if we like the person and we try our best, there is nothing that can be done.

In life we need to accept what and who is meant to be with us. If we insist forever on a path that is not working, we will find only unhappiness and distress. Although it might seem that our life ends when a relationship ends, it is not what happens. We grieve for it, we feel sorry for ourselves, and then we go on. The Universe presents us with infinite possibilities.

Sapatos e Pessoas 

Às vezes compramos um par de sapatos e, em seguida, descobrimos, frustrados, que eles não se encaixam tão bem como fizeram na loja. Como compramos os sapatos porque eram tão bonitos, é claro que ficamos chateados. Acabamos jogando fora ou dando para outra pessoa alguns desses sapatos, depois de tentar de tudo para alargá-los e perceber que é impossível. Outros, tentamos calçar alguns dias, na esperança de que vão alargar e - que alívio! - eles acabam se adaptando perfeitamente aos nossos pés.

Relações amorosas são como sapatos. Algumas delas começam perfeitas e permanecem assim. Algumas começam com problemas, mas nós gostamos da pessoa, gostamos da sua aparência e das suas qualidades interiores, e por isso trabalhamos naquele relacionamento. Depois de fazer um compromisso aqui e ali, finalmente chegamos a um relacionamento feliz. Mas alguns desses relacionamentos são destinados a falhar e, mesmo que gostemos da pessoa e tentemos de tudo, não há nada que possa ser feito.

Na vida temos de aceitar o que e quem se destina a estar conosco. Se insistimos para sempre num caminho que não está dando certo, vamos encontrar apenas infelicidade e angústia. Embora possa parecer que nossa vida acaba quando um relacionamento acaba, isso, na verdade, não acontece. Sofremos muito, sentimos pena de nós mesmos, e, em seguida, seguimos em frente. O Universo nos oferece infinitas possibilidades.

 

Mountain Climbers (Alpinistas)

If we are trying to climb a mountain and we keep worrying about the climbers ahead of us or the ones behind us, we might lose our balance and fall down. In order to reach the top of the mountain, we need to concentrate on our own movements and don’t worry about what other people are doing. There is always going to be someone who climbs faster and reach the peek first. There is always going to be someone who is slow and keeps stumbling, insecure of his own steps. We can take a brief look at the people ahead of us and learn from them. We can help the ones who are having difficulties. But we need to concentrate on our own movements and remember that each one of us has our own rhythm. 

Our journey is not someone else’s journey. It is unique and we need to discover how to go about it in a way that makes sense for us.  We are not here to criticize, compete, follow, or feel sorry for people all the time. We are here to work on our own goals. 

Alpinistas

Se estamos tentando escalar uma montanha e nos preocupamos com os alpinistas acima de nós ou aqueles atrás de nós, podemos perder o equilíbrio e cair. Para alcançar o topo da montanha, precisamos nos concentrar em nossos próprios movimentos e não nos preocupar com o que as outras pessoas estão fazendo. Sempre haverá alguém que sobe mais rápido e chega primeiro. Sempre haverá alguém que sobe devagar e tropeça toda hora, inseguro de seus próprios passos. Podemos dar uma olhadinha nas pessoas à nossa frente e aprender com elas. Podemos ajudar aquelas que estão tendo dificuldades. Mas precisamos nos concentrar em nossos próprios movimentos e nos lembrar de que cada um de nós tem o nosso próprio ritmo.

Nossa viagem não é a viagem de uma outra pessoa. Ela é única e precisamos descobrir como fazê-la da maneira correta para nós mesmos. Não estamos aqui para criticar, competir, seguir os outros, ou sentir pena das pessoas o tempo todo. Estamos aqui para trabalhar em nossos próprios objetivos.
