The Old Man (O velho)
The old
man sits under the bridge and contemplates the river in front of him. On the
bridge, above him, he hear the horses hooves passing by and he thinks about a
time when life went slow and everybody could sit around a bonfire, listening to
stories. After awhile, comes the noise of a car speeding by and he asks himself
where people are going in such a hurry and will it make any difference how fast
they get there? There is an old man crossing the bridge with faltering steps
and he wonders if the person has anything in common with him and if he regrets what
he left behind. A young man and a young woman, laughing, stop by the bridge and
whisper love secrets while the old man remembers the time when he was foolishly
in love and so happy. Children come shouting and chasing each other over the
bridge, while the old man thinks fondly about his childhood when he didn’t have
any care in the world…
FRIENDLY NOTE
My Brother
Nobody expects that you become a millionaire or a saint before the good enlightens your heart and guide your steps.
Sublime is a charity that turns into comfort.
Divine a charity that converts into radiant love.
From tiny seeds come the giant trees that sustain life.
Avoid talking about yourself.
Fulfill your duty without interfering with the tasks of others.
Do not look for praise while going about your obligations.
Do not get stuck to small things, when the overall good requires your collaboration.
Forgive offenses quietly...

BILHETE AMIGO

“When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”
Chief Aupumut, Mohican. 1725
Chief Aupumut, Moicano. 1725
